The Palafitos of Castro, located in the Chilean Isla Grande, have a very atypical architecture. Built on stilts along canals, lakes, and lagoons, these houses were mainly used by locals during the fishing season. Due to earthquakes and waves, many houses have disappeared. Some of the houses are still inhabited by the islanders, but most have been adapted for tourism.
